Our Front Porch with musical guest Windborne

The Western Illinois Museum is pleased to welcome the internationally acclaimed vocal band, Windborne, on Friday, December 11, 2020, at 5:30 pm. Our Front Porch (inside the museum!) is the perfect setting to hear their new project: Song on the Times: A Songbook and Album for Social Struggle.

Windborne’s four singers craft a stunningly powerful vocal harmony that is well-suited for their interest in presenting working-class songs.  Studying the over 400 years of the movement’s history, the band repurposes these songs for today’s struggles.  Lynn Mahoney Rowan, Will Thomas Rowan, Lauren Breunig, and Jeremy Carter-Gordon share a vibrant energy onstage. Their connection to each other and the music which they create provides an engaging and memorable performance. They educate as they entertain, telling stories about the music and explaining the characteristics and stylistic elements of the traditions in which they sing.  Brian O’Donovan, of WGBH-National Public Radio, describes Windborne as, “The best musical discovery of the year…Stunningly powerful vocal harmony… Windborne sets a new bar for folk harmony singing today”
