We are pleased to welcome two new Advisory Council members: Dr. Ginny Boynton and Bob Marcott. The council plays an important role in bringing diverse points of view from the community to assist the Board of Directors in guiding the museum.

Dr. Ginny Boynton joined the Western Illinois University, Department of History  in 1995, after receiving a Ph.D. from Ohio State University that same year. She is a specialist in American women’s history and the history of Interwar America (1914-1945).  In addition to her publications she has received several awards, including the WIU College of Arts and Sciences’ Outstanding Faculty Award for Service and Illinois State Historical Society’s Harry E. Pratt Memorial Award for outstanding scholarly publications in Illinois history.

For a number of years, Ginny has brought students from WIU’s Associated Students of History to the museum for service projects and supported students’ internships at the museum.  She is also a regular visitor to the museum, a familiarity that will assist her in her role as a member of the council. She has also served in the past as a member of the Board of Directors of the Illinois State Historical Society and is currently President of the Friends’ Board of Tri-States Public Radio in Macomb.

In her spare time, Dr. Boynton enjoys spoiling her cats, reading mysteries, playing cards and Scrabble with friends, flower gardening, and vacationing on Michigan’s Upper Peninsula’s Lake Superior shore.

Bob was licensed to practice law in the State of Montana in 1981 and was admitted to the Illinois State Bar in 1990.

Bob brings to the museum council past experience serving the community as a member of the DuPage Bar Association and was chairman of the Glen Ellyn Environmental Commission. Bob was also the recipient of the Glen Ellyn Volunteer of the Year Award.

Bob enjoys spending a lot of time with his family and vacationing on Lake Michigan. Bob also likes golfing and riding his motorcycle. He has been a regular visitor to the museum, as well as other local historical sites and is an avid reader about history.

The museum’s Board of Directors works closely with the Advisory Council to develop strategies and programs to keep the museum living its mission well and serving the community.  We are pleased that both Ginny and Bob, who come from differing professional fields, have agreed to join the council and help us to meet this goal.
