Warehouse Workers

With a nod to the history of our building -a long time automobile garage- we call the museum’s storage area, The Warehouse. Built in 1941, it has all the features of a warehouse: big windows for light, and wooden bow trusses allowing for wide open space open for plenty of storage. We invite you to become a warehouse worker and help us manage our collection. You’ll get up close to the museum’s artifacts and learn about history first hand. We need your help to inventory and add items to our collection management database. There are many ways to help and no experience is needed. All you need is an interest in cool old stuff. We’ll provide instructions and training along with some good company!

Questions? What to help? Give us a call at 309.837.2750 or text us at 309.837.2613 and we’ll set up a time to get started.

Docents
Docents are an essential part of creating a memorable museum visit. Welcoming and guiding visitors through an exhibit is the role of the museum docent. Orientation to each exhibit is available to prepare docents for this valuable service.

Outreach Program
Not everyone can come to the museum and volunteers are needed to go into the community to reach those who are interested in learning about the region’s unique history. Training is available for those interested in volunteering.

Database Entry
Update the museum’s mailing lists using the database program Past Perfect. Training will be provided. Being able to input information accurately is necessary.

Internships
The museum offers internships for college students interested in museum administration, history or recreation programs. The museum staff is willing to work within the requirements from colleges or universities to define projects, monitor and report on a student’s work at the museum. The museum currently has internship programs with the Western Illinois University History and RPTA departments. Contact Sue Scott at the museum to discuss how to become an intern.
