Here’s the story…

The Western Illinois Museum is located in a 1941 brick building that was for many years known as Macomb Motors. The building has unique architectural features which include large, multi-paned windows that were typically used in garages and warehouses of the time. We need your help to replace the deteriorating windows to ensure our collection is secure and this historic building can be re-purposed as a community resource.

The replacement windows will be made at our local Pella plant and local contractors will be used for the installation. Contributions raised to save this historic building will be returned to the community through manufacturing and construction jobs. The replica windows will maintain the look of this historic building. The average cost to manufacture and install each window is $5,500. Join us in creating a place that preserves our history and culture, showcasing our regional architecture, while supporting local businesses.

Here’s what we want to do…

  • Maintain and preserve the historic characteristics of the building.
  • Replace windows on the highly visible east and south facades of the building.
  • Secure the $27,000 balance needed to purchase and install three windows. Funds for five windows have been contributed.
  • Replace the windows as part of the ongoing plan to turn an underused building into usable space for the community and housing the Western Illinois Museum, the MACVB, and the McDonough County Genealogical Society.
  • Install windows in the summer of 2018!
