The Western Illinois Museum Board is pleased to welcome two new Directors, Anna Bower and Dr. Timothy Roberts. They will play an important role in guiding the museum to live its mission well.
Directors serve for one year with the option to renew for up to three terms. They are our biggest advocates. As a non-profit, funded and supported by individual contributors, the museum is here to serve the community. The directors love to talk about what’s happening at the museum and welcome your suggestions.
Anna Bower
Anna Bower is from Grand Junction, Colorado, where she studied History at Mesa State College. She has a passion for history and learning. In the fall of 2014 she began volunteering at the museum and has quickly become an important part of our collection
management team. She has helped implement training for other volunteers to work with the collection and has expanded their involvement with the care of artifacts. Her knowledge of our artifacts makes her an ideal board member where she can provide insights for the best means to preserve the region’s history through a well-considered collection.

Dr. Timothy Roberts
Dr. Timothy Roberts, a historian of nineteenth century American History, has been a part of WIU’s Department of History since 2008. With a D.Phil. from the University of Oxford, Dr. Roberts has been the recipient of numerous awards and fellowships including a U.S. Fulbright lectureship to teach at Zhejiang University in Hangzhou, China. He has published two books on American Exceptionalism, as well as articles and book reviews. Dr. Roberts has lectured as well as been involved in creating programs at the museum. Notably, in 2011 he worked to develop a partnership with WIU’s Malpass Library for a series of programs on the Civil War including creating a walking tour of significant Civil War sites in Macomb. Tim’s deep knowledge of history and his creative approach to programming makes him well suited to guide and set goals for the museum’s exhibit and educational programs.
