Oral Histories from Vietnam War Veterans

To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War, a selection from the museum’s oral history collection recorded with veterans from that conflict will be on view. For the last six years, the museum’s oral history program has given a voice to the legacy of men and women from West Central Illinois who served in the armed forces. At the heart of the project is an interest of providing veterans an opportunity to share their experiences as a way to build community, as well as for others to gain insights. Often individual stories are not a part of current conversation or the historical narrative that surrounds conflicts. Veterans’ experiences in the armed services constitute a valuable treasure that the museum wishes to preserve for future generations. Guests will be invited to listen to the recordings as a way to learn more about and support local our veterans.
